Skywatch Friday – Ahungalla, Sri Lanka

We were just back from a visit to the turtle hatchery close to our hotel and decided to sit by the beach and watch the last of the daylight crumble into darkness. We were staying at the Heritance Hotel, Ahungalla on the South West coast of Sri Lanka. The birds were hurriedly going to their resting places, the crabs went scurrying into their holes, the trees swayed with the sea breeze almost as if signaling the end of a day.

The sky showed hints of making a dramatic transition from blue to pitch black but that was not going to happen without drama, and what drama it was. It was like the sky had put on a show for us that evening and we were but a mere star struck audience to the magic that unfolded with every passing minute.

If you are looking to have a special dining experience, the hotel serves dinner on special request (and price I am sure) right on the beach under this spectacular sky. Adding to the beauty of the beach and the sunset were lanterns that swayed with the breeze and made the whole scene only more beautiful!

We were in Sri Lanka for good 6 days and every other day other than this one, either it was raining or overcast. Well that evening in Ahungalla was spectacular and every other day only made us value and treasure it more.

To view other beautiful skies from the world over visit Skywatch Friday.
